Chapter 3: Summary, Conclusions, and Recommendations (Draft)

Chapter 3: Summary, Conclusions, and Recommendations

I. Summary

This paper attempted to determine the boundaries of fans when supporting their idols.
The research design used in this study is the descriptive research method where data was gathered from documents, news, and articles to answer the question given. The research findings are the following:
1. Fandom is a group of fans who are gathered together as one, in which people have a different point of view.
2. Fandom has two sides: In pros, fans have inspiration, unity, and their idol's popularity increases; and Cons, distraction, fan's reactions, society's point of view, and misbehavior.
3. There should be a balance in anything a fan does. Do not only focus on doing things related to the artists, try to attend other important matters.
4. Fans should keep in mind to respect the privacy of the idol. They are normal people too; they have their own personal lives.
5. Fandom does not only mean fans create wild interaction, fandom also creates a bond and friendship between them and the idols.
6. Not all fans are the same. Fans may be in the same fandom, but they differ in the support they do for the idols. There are levels of being a fan; it is similar as high, medium, and low or normal.
7. Idols consider some fans as "crazy good" because they are inspired and willing to achieve their goals because of them.
8. It is harder to be a fan than to be an artist. Fans take all the risks: haters, rumors, news, and other things. Real fans are willing to protect the idols they love no matter what others say. Yet, the idols do the same for their fans.
9. Fans are not only fans of the idols; they are also part of their family.

II. Conclusion
Based on the findings of this study, the following conclusions are drawn:
1. It is difficult to determine which side you are on: positive or negative. Every person has their own reason on what limit is to be considered for fans.
2. Every fan's action will be a different outlook to society; it could be either good or bad. Depending on what kind of behavior they showed.
3. Fans should keep in mind that there should be a limitation in anything they do.
4. Society should understand that fandom and obsession are two different things. Not all fans have the same behavior about their idols, as well as the support they do.

III. Recommendations
After drawing the conclusions of the study, the researcher highly recommend the conducted study about Fandom to students, fans, parents, and writers who are willing to learn more about the culture of fandom and its boundaries. As a result, fans should not be ashamed of showing their support. They should know that there are also other people who are feeling the same way as they are and do not be afraid of showing the society how big and proud your fandom is. This may also be new information for people who are new to the fandom and wants to know what it truly consists of.
